5 Wake-Up Calls For Women 40 And Over

Forty is the new thirty. Indeed, you don’t have any reason to be afraid of hitting the big 4-0 milestone. For a start, being 40 in the 21st century offers a world of opportunities. The world is not only your oyster, but, for the first time, you have the experience and the wisdom to nurture that oyster and steal its precious pearl.
More to the point, 40 marks a new beginning in the life of a woman. It’s an age at which you have finally mastered the self-confidence you need to evaluate your life choices and correct some of the ill-informed decisions you might have taken in the past. It’s the best time to compile the balance sheet of your situation, on the left, the things you love about your life and yourself, and on the right the things that need to change. Your chance of happiness is now: You can make the most of what you know and what you have to clean the slate and reveal the brand new you. It’s time for your wake-up calls!

#1. Realizing someone is making your sick
Everything in the body is connected. So while it’s easy to understand why a bruise appears where you knocked your arm against the table. But you need to be older in years to reach a better understanding of your health, especially when it comes to your mental health. The question “how do you feel” can leave a lot of people unsure. Ultimately, when life doesn’t give us the opportunity to stop and recharge our batteries, it can be tricky to understand your emotions. Your body is a holistic machine that reacts to a variety of factors. Your mental and emotional health can, therefore, create physical reactions, such as headaches, increased stress, etc. But when you’re still young and inexperienced, you may not see how a person’s behavior can create your illness. But now is the time to wave goodbye to those who cause you pain and emotional discomfort. Whether it’s the friend who takes you for granted or the partner who is never there when you need them, know that you have the strength to break free.

#2. Realizing that you can fight your genes
Your genes define how your body reacts to its environment. Indeed, you might have done everything you could to look after your skin, but your lifestyle choices and skincare products can only do so much. If you’ve got bad genes, you’re more likely to develop premature wrinkles, while your friend next door is older than you but her gene pool is kinder to her skin. Yes, it is frustrating! But accept the situation as it is. Your hard work is paying off – it always does –, but it’s not doing enough. Being in a position where you understand that you can’t fight biology means that you are more likely to find effective alternatives, such as considering botox for wrinkles or laser treatment to boost your skin. Ultimately, it’s important to realize that society is wrong. You don’t have to accept your body if it doesn’t work for you.

#3. Realizing that you don’t have to meet other people’s expectations
Young women are more likely to be influenced by their partners, when it comes to their beauty. Whether it’s about shaving your legs or wearing makeup, you need to ask yourself who you are doing it for. You may not have enough self-confidence as a 20-something to understand that your efforts are only designed to please someone else. But now, you can embrace your flaws, your bumps, your hair fully and consider the real beneficiary of your beauty routines. Something you do to be accepted by someone else is not worth doing anymore.

#4. Realizing your true calling
By now, you’ve probably built a successful career in your branch. But being successful in your job doesn’t mean that you are happy. Did you know that many adults haven’t yet found their passion? They pursue a career a provide financial stability but fails to give them the satisfaction and purpose they desire. If every day feels dull, the ideal career you built is not a good fit for you. Practising self-reflection can help you to identify areas that feel closer to your true self. Besides, you’ve got now sufficient knowledge and personal strength to figure out what print you want to leave in the world.

#5. Realizing that nothing is eternal
Finally, following the idea of finding your true passion, you need to act upon it. Dreaming of what life could be if this or that isn’t the answer. You can’t afford to wait. Finding your happy place requires starting today.

Life coaches tend to assume that 40 is the time to start again. What happens if you hear those wake-up calls earlier? The answer is simple. It’s never too early to embrace your true self, emotionally, professionally and physically.

Your 'Must Do' List For Spring!

March 27, 2019

Welcome to Atlanta where when it’s spring, the air turns yellow and everyone starts sneezing and sniffling. Hello, Spring!! Just kidding...kind of. That is all still very true, but spring is so much more than just pollen and sneezing - it is a time to start fresh and new and it’s a time to finally enjoy the beautiful Atlanta weather! The weather does not show that it is spring yet, for the most part - we’ve had a couple of warm days lately, but not many - but I’ve already heard more birds chirping and I’ve seen some blooming plants, so far. I think everyone is very excited about warmer weather and fun spring activities to come - I know I am!

Every spring, I always have the urge to do all of the spring things. Picking strawberries, going on bike rides, etc. but I never do the necessary tasks, like spring cleaning and taking my allergy medicine because they just are not fun. It can be easy to focus on the things that we want to do, but when we avoid the things that we need to do, that is never good. Here is a must do list for spring (the things that you NEED to do):

Spring Cleaning
Everyone is so busy enjoying the beautiful weather and they just do not make time for spring cleaning - myself included. According to The Spruce, “One of the biggest parts of spring cleaning is getting rid of clutter that you don't need. Now is a good time to advantage of the natural spring urge to get rid of items that are weighing you down and begin fresh with a more streamlined lifestyle. A systematic four-step approach to identifying problems, analyzing reasons, determining solutions, and implementing remedies can be extremely productive at this time of year. Sorting your belongings into four categories—trash, give-away, store, or put-way—can also be effective as you begin the spring-cleaning process. Now is a great time to plan a garage sale or to donate items to good causes. Cleaning will be a lot easier when the clutter is gone.” Another huge tip is to get an all-purpose cleaner that will work for everything! I love using Branch Basics because it is non-toxic and it really works, too! They give you one concentrate and you can split them up into different bottles for the bathroom, laundry, all-purpose, streak-free, etc. but my tip is to use all of the bottles for all-purpose (or bathroom - because it’s stronger) cleaners and then use the laundry one for laundry.

Dental Appointments
Dental appointments are just another one of those things that you don’t want to do, but you should surely do it, to prevent future damage. Going to the dentist is so important to make sure that your gums are teeth are strong and healthy! Your mouth is the pathway to your body, so going to the dentist every six months is essential, and you also need to make sure you are doing all that you can do incorporate good preventative care in between your appointments.

Dr. Gary Simms with Metro Decatur Dental Group PC recommends using a soft to a medium toothbrush. When you are brushing, position the brush at a 45-degree angle where your gums and teeth meet. Gently move the brush in a circular motion using small, gentle strokes in order to brush the outside surface of your teeth. Don’t forget to floss, as well! Periodontal disease usually appears between your teeth, where the toothbrush cannot reach, so flossing is a great way to remove plaque from those hard to reach surfaces.

While preventative care in between appointments is essential, you need a professional cleaning every six months to get a deep clean. If you are in the Metro-Atlanta area, I highly recommend checking out Dr. Simms at Metro Decatur Dental Group PC. Dr. Simms and his team believe in providing comprehensive care and treatments that address both your short and long-term dental care needs in an honest, judgment-free environment. Dr. Gary Simms believes in conservative, preventative dentistry and his goal is to increase the longevity of his patients' teeth (and happiness!).

So, take advantage of the pollen in the air and go to your dental appointment during the spring since it will be indoors!

Hike

Okay, I know that I’ve talked a lot about the pollen and how this is a ‘not fun’ list, but please remember to take advantage of the weather, get outside, and sweat a little bit! Hiking is the perfect way to see Atlanta during the spring when the trees and plants are blooming and everything is just so gorgeous. I love hiking Kennesaw Mountain - it’s a pretty tough hike, but still easy enough that almost anyone can do it. The view is great, as well!

Helping Someone Plan A Wedding Without Stressing Yourself

From time to time, someone we know will be preparing to get married. This can be an exciting and worrying time for all. Exciting in that the day will likely be a wonderful one, and signify the loving future of your relative or friend. Worrying in that… weddings can be pretty complex to plan. But if asked to help with the arrangements, accepting this privilege can be something you do out of love and care. It’s an honor to be asked this, so it’s no wonder why many people take it with both hands. After all, helping to pick out the most elegant wedding dresses or the best venues can be extremely exciting and gratifying! Of course, if you cannot find the time or simply do not wish to, you shouldn’t feel pressured into doing this. If that sounds like you, the following advice will hold little value.

But if you are hoping to help someone plan a wedding, especially without stressing yourself, then it can be truly wonderful to do so. You never know just how much this might please them. Of course, you want to do the best job you can, so let us guide you through this both amazing and nervous time:

Take Care Of The Small Elements
It might not be that you can plan everything with them, but you might volunteer to take care of the smaller considerations. Of course, every consideration is significant and counts, but perhaps you might have some knowledge you can ‘flex’ in order to find the best option. For example, you might not have any idea what makes a great wedding dress, but you might have found a great resource for sourcing a wedding band such as those offered by the Alive Network https://www.alivenetwork.com/hirelivemusic/bands-for-weddings-in?region=Scotland. It’s always best to make a contribution effectively rather than trying to help plan everything in some tiny manner.

Only Agree To That Which Is Appropriate For You
It might be that your friend wishes you to take care of the wedding rings and present them on the day. That might not seem like something you want to do, especially considering how you have children to look after on that day. It’s quite okay to decline responsibilities in order to focus on the ones you have been given, or vice versa, it’s quite okay to only wish to take care of one large element with the utmost reliability. This can help you avoid making a significant mistake, especially with something as important as this.

Communicate
It’s important to stay in excellent communication with all forms of the wedding planning team. Ideally, the planning team should be relatively small, because the ‘too many cooks’ syndrome can establish itself in a big way here. You might encourage creating a group WhatsApp, Facebook or Twitter chat for all of your planning acquaintances to speak to each other, to pin messages, and to ensure that two people through lack of planning end up doing the same thing, while lacking another essential responsibility.

With these tips, you’re sure to help someone plan a wedding without stressing yourself. We wish you the best of luck.
