Organizing A Wedding During A Pandemic

November 10, 2020

Sure, perhaps we could have all had better timing, but there are a lot of couples who simply aren’t willing to wait for the “perfect time,” they want to get married now! However, while far from impossible, getting married during a pandemic that often results in many different venues and services being locked down is a challenge, to say the least. We’re going to look at some of the ways you can work around the limitations as they exist, and to have a wonderful day no matter what’s going on with the rest of the world.

Should you save it for later?

If you’ve already booked your wedding before the pandemic became a thing and you’re only just now wondering if it’s right to go ahead with it, you might be a little late to the party. The good thing is that the vast majority of venues and wedding service providers will let you cancel and you might even get your deposit back. Most people are well aware of how challenging a time this is, so many of them are doing the goodwill gesture of giving back what money they can or at least making it easier to cancel. As such, you might want to consider pushing the date back a bit or keeping it open-ended to see if the restrictions loosen up a little more.

Keep it a small affair

The most prescient thought for most people right now is making sure that their wedding, if it is going ahead, doesn’t become a super-spreader event reported on by the local news. To that end, you need to think about ways to limit the risk of transmission as best as possible. For that reason, you want to consider having a smaller wedding. Even if the venue you have already booked can fit over a hundred people inside it, you might want to start trimming those numbers down just to reduce the risk of people spreading the virus from person to another on your big day. You don’t want that to be the most prevalent memory of your wedding.

Give everyone some space

You want to establish some ground rules at the wedding simply to make sure that everyone is as safe as possible. This might include, for instance, having everyone distanced apart to some degree, whether it’s the recommended six feet or otherwise. Some venues may even insist on this. However, one of the easiest ways to make sure that everyone has enough space to feel comfortable and safe is to have your wedding in an outdoor space.  It might take a little more planning to ensure that you’re ready for the weather and other outdoor conditions. However, aside from being slightly safer, it also has the benefit of celebrating your big day out in the beauty of nature.

Order what you can online

Most non-essential retail stores are at risk of going into lockdown at any moment if they aren’t already closed where you are. For that reason, it’s a good idea to get the idea of going shopping out of your head. It might be a dream to go try out a bridal dress in person, but if that’s not possible, you should at least rest assured that it’s becoming a lot easier to find the right dress online. Aside from finding an online wedding dress, it’s simply becoming much easier to find everything that you need for the wedding through the internet. Vendors, service providers like photographers, and wedding fashion are all well represented on the internet, all you have to do is search for them.

It might be the perfect time to elope

The applicability of this particular tip depends on a few factors, such as whether or not you’re able to legally travel at the time you want to get married. However, if you want to have a memorable and gorgeous wedding even without too many guests, then the perfect way to make it a bigger occasion is to get married abroad or at least get married in a location that’s far-flung, sunny, and feels like a vacation away from your daily life. It’s a good trade-off for not being able to invite all of your friends and family and you can also double the wedding destination as the place that you have your honeymoon.

Arranging a wedding during such an awkward and difficult time might not be easy, but people have been doing it, even if they have to get creative about it. Hopefully, the advice above helps you.
