Feelings You Might Experience when you Have Cancer

August 4, 2020

If you have just been diagnosed with cancer, then you will know that sometimes it is easy to feel overwhelmed or overrun with everything that is going on around you. At times, you may find it hard to deal with your emotions and you may even feel as though the world is working against you. If you want to try and help yourself cope, then here are some ways that you can deal with the emotions you are feeling.

Loneliness

People who have cancer often feel distant or lonely. This can be for a number of reasons. Friends sometimes have a hard time dealing with cancer because they don’t feel as though they can call you or that they are able to visit because you are on a limited schedule with your treatment. On top of this, you may feel as though you are just too sick to partake in some of the hobbies you once did. It’s normal to feel somewhat alone after you have had treatment as well because you will no longer have the support you once had from your healthcare team and you might also feel as though the safety net you had has been pulled from underneath you. If you want to stop this from affecting your mental health too much, then it is wise for you to try and seek out emotional support in different ways, such as by talking to people who have had cancer before. If you are still fighting cancer then you can look into the Proton Therapy Center.

Gratitude

Some people see their cancer as being a wakeup call. They know the importance of enjoying the smaller things in life and they go to places that they never thought they would. They also find the time to finish some of the projects that they once started, but never finished. It may be difficult at first, but it is more than possible for you to find some joy in your life, even if you have cancer. Pay attention to the things that you do every day, as well as the things that make you smile.

Depression

This is another very common feeling that so many people experience. You need to make sure that you seek help if you feel this way. Depression can be crippling and when you feel as though you are going through a hard time with your physical health, it can take its toll on your mental health. If you want to stop this from affecting you, then you need to do everything you can to chat with your support team as well. When you do they can then advise you on the treatment you can take and they can also help you to know if there is anything that you can do to talk to others who might be in the same situation as you, so keep that in mind if you can. Remember, seeking help is not a weakness, in fact, it’s a sign of strength.
